Crouse is the first Syracuse hospital to offer single-site robotic surgery for gallbladder removal, and Dr. Cooper is the first Syracuse surgeon trained to perform the minimally invasive procedure. He is a graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his internship and residency at the State University of New York - Upstate Medical University. Dr. Cooper is board certified and is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery.

About one million new cases are diagnosed every year, and approximately 800,000 operations are performed to treat gallstones � making gallstone disease the most common gastrointestinal disorder to require hospitalization. Dr. DeSimone is now using robotic technology for gallbladder removal, which requires just one tiny incision in the navel. Dr. DeSimone received his medical training at Georgetown University Medical College and completed his Fellowship at State University of New York Health Science Center in Syracuse. He is board- certified and is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery.

Taewan Kim, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon, with a specialty in bariatric surgery. He earned his medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, NY, where he also completed his general surgery residency and a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Kim holds his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from New York University. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
